L-3 EOTECH HWS MAGNIFIER
Extend The Capabilities Of Your Holographic Weapon Sight
The L-3 EOTech Holographic Weapon Sight (HWS) is considered by many operators to be the premier optical sight for CQB/CQC (Close Quarters Battle/Close Quarters Combat). L-3 EOTech has extended the capabilities of the HWS even further with the introduction of its new HWS Magnifiers. Now you can rapidly transition your HWS from a non-magnifying CCO for close range tactical scenarios into a magnifying optical sight with the additional power you need to accurately identify and engage targets with precision at medium ranges and back again.

SMITH & WESSON’S M&P .45
Military Version
The author recently visited the Smith & Wesson factory to shoot various new guns. High on the list of those he wanted to try was the .45 version of the M&P designed to meet the on-again, off-again military trial specs. Try it he did, and here gives his detailed report.

NORTH CAROLINA JUSTICE ACADEMY
Specialized Tactical Training Courses
If you’ve got the money, many excellent firearms and tactical training schools have got the time to train you. But the fact remains that many such courses remain cost prohibitive to both individuals and agencies. Some criminal justice agencies are fortunate enough to have first-rate facilities, staff and an operating budget that allows them to conduct their training in-house. However, the majority of agencies and individual operators do not. Luckily there are a few government-operated training facilities that offer excellent training at little or no cost. The North Carolina Justice Academy is one such establishment, and the author checks out the facility and its offerings.

RIFLE DATA MADE EASY
Shorthand System For The Precision Shooter
Precision shooters keep precise notes. When you have but one shot, this database helps predict where that shot will go. For law enforcement marksmen, accurate records are invaluable should an officer's training and preparedness ever be questioned in court. Using a "shorthand" system and a small notepad, you can record data for any target or situation. All you need are a 3x5 or 4x6 lined notepad and a pencil.

RUNNING THE RED DOT RIGHT
Ensuring Successful Target Interdiction with the Electro Optical Sight
Optical sights provide a shooter with the ability to rapidly acquire, identify and engage a threat, and do it within a compressed time frame not achieved with iron sights. If you choose wisely, you can get an optical sight that is rugged, waterproof, has an obscene battery life and maybe even magnification for certain mission requirements. The problem is that a great many people do not know how to properly use an optical sight. And if you do know how, we’re still willing to bet that you’ll learn something from this article.

SHOOTING ACCURACY
The Role of Physical Training
If running on a treadmill and pumping iron at the gym don’t sound as fun as busting caps on the range, remember: it ain’t about fun. Being able to shoot accurately is about your life, maybe the lives of your loved ones or possibly your professional future, depending on whether you shoot for self-defense or professional reasons. S.W.A.T.’s physical fitness expert examines how physical fitness contributes to shooting accuracy. Topics include what kind of training you should do, how often and at what intensity, and how increased physical fitness will help you become a better shooter.

BROWNELLS INC.
Gunsmith’s Supermarket Opens Firearms Training Facility
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Brownells catalog, and this year’s edition features over 30,000 products for general gunsmithing as well as law enforcement and military armorers/end users. The author visited the Brownells plant in Montezuma, Iowa and also their new firearms training facility located just outside of Montezuma. Their new range complex consists of rifle and pistol square ranges plus trap and skeet fields. This article profiles Brownells, their LE/MIL specific products and one of the best range facilities in the Midwest.

RUNNING THE AK
Up-and-Coming Instructor Adds AKs to Training Mix
There has been an explosion of interest in and availability of AK-style firearms in the U.S. Several well-known instructors are now answering the demand by offering classes geared specifically to the AK. But this group also includes up-and-coming firearms instructors like Paul Gomez, who is making a big splash on the training and symposium scene. Why are AKs and Paul Gomez becoming so popular? You know the answer: you’ll have to read the article to find out.

INTO THE BREACH
Justifying an Explosive Breaching Program
The threat posed to America’s law enforcement community has never been greater. Ranging from global Islamic terrorist groups to high-level narco-terrorist factions, these threats are more severe than ever before. Today’s departments must train for a higher level of incident response than in years past. One critical tool for a cutting-edge SWAT team to possess is explosive breaching. As with any tactical option, explosive breaching is a tool to be used only when the situation warrants it. There is a great deal of misinformation out there regarding this subject. Joseph offers his ideas concerning justifying explosive breaching capabilities to administrators.

SERBIA’S SAJ
Foreign Response to Terrorism
The Special Antiterrorist Unit has led the Serbian fight against terrorism for more than a decade. Operating within the National Police, the SAJ is currently considered one of the best-trained anti-terrorist units in Central Europe. Following the Serbian declaration of independence, the SAJ was reorganized as a modern counter-terrorist unit, with full jurisdiction over all of the country. The author discusses the unit’s missions, training, weaponry, equipment and deployments.
