editorial overview

The best defense is a good offense. This oft-spoken statement is true whether the task at hand is sports, a street fight, a debate... or a gunfight. While the software, the will to win, is the most essential item to bring to a fight, the proper hardware is also vital for ensuring one's survival.

Software includes all aspects of an individual's mindset and the quantity and quality of training they have received. Hardware, of course, means the best weaponry that your personal budget will allow. Financial responsibility is often wise, but pinching pennies is not a good idea when a life–particularly yours–is on the line.

Like every issue of S.W.A.T., the July issue contains straightforward, honest reviews of firearms and ancillary equipment to satisfy the hardware requirement. While some publications will only tell you what works, well let you know what doesn't, and why.

For the software portion of the equation, S.W.A.T. is the industry leader when it comes to hard-hitting, informational reports on training. This issue, for example, includes an article on how clay target shooting enhances your tactical shotgun skills, and another on how to strengthen your grip in preparation for both armed and barehanded encounters.

What may work on a square range may not work in combat, and what works in a dojo often does not work on the mean streets. You can rely on S.W.A.T. for what works–in the real world.
