editorial overview

What does "high-speed, low-drag" mean to you? Is it the latest techno-whiz gadget you can bolt onto our favorite firearm, or is it being able to make hits on demand while using sound tactics? While marketing firms use the term "new and improved" successfully, the fact that something is new does not necessarily mean it is an improvement.

One example of this can be found in an article on surplus military bolt-action rifles in this issue. While they may not be as "sexy" as more modern firearms, Enfields and Mausers ruled battlefields of the past due to their robust, reliable designs~Wand they are still capable of making one-shot hits under combat conditions to this day.

On the other hand, advancements in weaponry can make the tactician's job easier. Polymer-frame handguns, unheard of only a few decades ago, resist corrosion problems and make handguns lighter and therefore more portable. This issue contains two examples of high-tech designs with the Glock Model 37 and the Kel-Tec P-3AT.

After all is said and done, however, "high-speed, low-drag" probably comes down to mindset and using the best tactics available, tailoring them to the specific situation. To that end we have also included an article on advanced handgun tactics, and flashlight tactics for low-light encounters in this issue.

You will find all of the above and much more in the current issue, including all of our regular columns written by respected professionals.
